What is a sponsored post marketplace?

A sponsored post marketplace is a platform where a business pays to appear in an article on someone else’s publication: a full sponsored article, or a mention added to a post that already exists. The post is advertising, so it should be labelled as sponsored, and any link in it should carry rel="sponsored" so search engines know it was paid for. Buyers use these posts for referral visibility, brand context and links.

Most of the platforms that rank for this search are open marketplaces. Third-party publishers list their own sites, each publisher sets its own price, and quality is shown as metric filters. The model is the same across them: many independent publishers, one checkout, and a platform in the middle.

That model gives you range. It also hands you the vetting. Metrics on a listing are supplied or scraped, sites change hands, and a post can disappear months after you paid for it. If you buy on an open marketplace, score every site first — our publisher vetting checklist is the one we run ourselves.

Open vs owned

How is the 3rd Unicorn Marketplace different from an open marketplace?

We built the opposite of a directory: a small catalogue of titles we control, sold on terms we can keep. Here is how the two models compare, point by point.

Open marketplaces (typical) 3rd Unicorn Marketplace
Who runs the titles Third-party publishers list their own sites, often thousands of them 3rd Unicorn owns 50 network titles and manages the rest directly
Who sets the price Each publisher sets its own price One published rate card per price band; network placements from $45
How quality is shown Metric filters such as Domain Authority, Domain Rating and organic traffic An S–D grade with written reasons; each metric shown with its source and date
Disclosure Varies by platform and by publisher Sponsored label on every post; every link rel="sponsored"
Live guarantee Often no stated live guarantee Live for at least 12 months, or a full refund to your balance
When your money moves Payment often goes to the publisher Held from your balance until the live URL is in your account
Platform fees Vary: some charge commission, some charge none 8% platform fee plus a payment-method fee, shown once when you add funds

Source and scope: the open-marketplace column describes the typical open marketplace model in general terms, not any one platform. Terms differ between platforms and change; check any platform’s current pages before you buy. The trade-off is real: an open marketplace offers far more choice, and one that charges little or no commission can cost less to use than our 8% fee. If you need breadth across thousands of sites, it is the better tool — as long as you vet.

Before you top up

How do you choose a sponsored post marketplace?

Whichever platform you use, ask six questions before you add funds. The answers are usually on the platform’s own pages; when they are not, that is an answer too.

  1. 01 Who controls the site? A listing is only as stable as the person behind it. Ask whether the platform owns the titles, manages them under contract or simply lists what publishers submit — and what happens to your post when a site is sold.
  2. 02 Where do the metrics come from, and when were they read? A Domain Rating with no source or date cannot be checked. Look for the tool, the read date, and organic traffic shown next to authority, because the two often tell different stories.
  3. 03 Is disclosure built in? Paid posts should be labelled, and paid links should carry rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow". A seller offering an unlabelled “editorial” link for money is selling you risk.
  4. 04 What happens when the post disappears? Ask for the remedy in writing: how long the post must stay live, how fast a dead link is restored, and whether a refund is possible if it is not.
  5. 05 When does your money leave? Paying a publisher up front puts the delivery risk on you. Holding the funds until a live URL exists puts it on the seller.
  6. 06 What does it cost, all in? Compare the listed price plus every fee — top-up, platform, payment and withdrawal — rather than the sticker price alone.

The catalogue

What can you buy on the marketplace?

Three services, priced per publication in US dollars. A sponsored mention adds your brand to a relevant post that is already published, with the paragraph reworked so it reads naturally — from $45 on a network title. A full article is researched and written by our desk in the title’s own voice, 800 to 1,200 words — from $75. Or send your own text and we edit it to the title’s house style.

Each article starts from the publication’s readers, not from your link, and is written for the one title it runs on. It is used once: text that has appeared in another placement is refused. You see the draft before it is published, two revision rounds are free, and network titles publish within 48 to 72 hours of your approval. Order three or more network titles in one checkout and those items get 5% to 20% off.

The grades

How is each title graded?

Every title carries a grade from S to D, and the card shows why: its strengths and its caveats, side by side. Each metric is listed with its source and the date it was read — Domain Rating from Ahrefs, organic traffic and referring domains from DataForSEO — so you can check the number rather than trust it. A young title says it is young.

A grade is a buying aid, not a verdict on a publication’s worth: a newer title with a lower grade can still be the right fit when its readers are your customers. Read the reasons, not just the letter.

Every placement includes

  • → A sponsored label on the post
  • → Links set to rel="sponsored"
  • → Submission via IndexNow on publication
  • → The live URL in your account, and an invoice
  • → The 12-month live guarantee

Guarantee and fees

What does the guarantee cover, and what does it cost?

Live for 12 months, or a full refund to your balance

If a published post goes offline within the guarantee, we restore it within 7 days of your report. If we can’t, we move it to a title in the same price band within 14 days. If neither happens, you get a full refund to your balance.

Money held until it’s live

Your balance pays for an order, but the amount is held, not spent, until the live URL is in your account. If we decline the order or can’t deliver it, the money goes straight back to your balance.

Fees shown once

Fees apply only when you add funds: an 8% platform fee plus a payment-method fee: card fee 5.5%, crypto processing fee 1% (USDT/USDC), no fee for bank transfer. Minimum top-up $50 by card or crypto, $250 by bank. Nothing is added at checkout.

What the guarantee does not cover: rankings, traffic or authority scores. We don’t promise those for any placement. The full rate card and fee examples are on the marketplace pricing page.

Regulated niches

Can iGaming and crypto brands buy sponsored posts?

Yes, through a licence-aware lane. UK-targeted iGaming, crypto, forex/trading and loans orders need a licence or authorisation (UKGC, or FCA) that we’ve verified on the regulator’s public register. Without one, you can still order for other markets where you’re licensed. The check happens before the order goes ahead, not after publication. The posts are trade news and product coverage — never bonus codes. For operators who want a managed program rather than single posts, our iGaming SEO team runs the whole thing.

Self-serve or managed

Should you use the marketplace or hire us?

Use the marketplace when you know which titles you want and prefer to place posts one at a time, on your own schedule. Hire us when you want the plan done for you: our link building service vets third-party publishers across the web, writes to editorial standard, manages your anchor ledger and reports every placement. The two combine well — a campaign for the strategy, the marketplace for extra posts you choose yourself. Campaign tiers are on our pricing page.

Questions we hear most

Sponsored post marketplace — FAQ

Are sponsored posts safe for SEO?

Google asks for paid links to be marked, and every post on the 3rd Unicorn Marketplace is labelled as sponsored with its links set to rel="sponsored". That keeps the placement inside the rules. What you buy is an audience and the context of a real publication, not a ranking promise: we do not guarantee rankings, traffic or authority scores, and nobody honest does.

Who runs the 3rd Unicorn Marketplace?

3RD UNICORN LTD, company number 17490143, registered in England and Wales: the same company behind this agency. It sells only placements on publications we own (50 network titles) or manage directly, and it sells to businesses. The editorial desk that writes the articles is ours too, which is how each article can be written for one title and used once.

How fast does a sponsored post go live?

An editor first reviews the order and writes a brief for the title. You then see the draft before anything is published, with two free revision rounds. Once you approve it, network titles publish within 48 to 72 hours, the live URL appears in your account, and the 12-month guarantee starts that day.

What if a post goes offline?

Report it and we restore it within 7 days. If we cannot, we move the piece to another title in the same price band within 14 days, at no cost. If neither happens, you get a full refund to your balance. The guarantee runs for at least 12 months from publication, on every title.

Is there a discount for ordering several titles?

Yes. Order three or more 3rd Unicorn network titles in one checkout and those items are discounted, from 5% at three titles up to 20% at twenty. The count is distinct titles in that checkout, and the discount shows in your cart before you confirm. Prices are in US dollars and listed per publication.
